given on another website. I won't mention the website, but was reading up on Shih-Tzus and they have a question and answer section there.
I almost choked at the "advice" of the person that responded to the question. She is supposedly a "breeder" giving out advice like this. I researched further and found out that her "kennel" offers boasts their "registered" APRI puppies. Hence, her advice. I hope the OP of the question didn't listen to that advice.
Here is the original question:
"hi my female shih tzu has a hernia , but i want her to have 1 litter of puppies before she gets spayed , as she is such a lovey chracter and so loving and good with every 1. but i,m not sure what i should do about the hernia as all my vet keeps saying is when are you going to get her spayed? can some one please help as i don't want to hurt my dog . thanks"
...and the answer given:
"WHAT TYPE OF HERNIA IS IT? INGUAL? OR NAVEL? IF IT IS A NAVEL THAT IS VERY COMMON IN THE BREED. YOU CAN BREED HER SHE WILL DO FINE. HOWEVER IF IT IS THE LOWER HERNIA, THERE ARE MANY DIFFERENT OPIONS ABOUT IT. SOME WOULD TELL YOU NOT TO BREED IT, THAT WILL PAST DOWN THREW TO YOUR PUPS, AND SOME WOULD SAY THAT IF ITS SMALL AND NOT NEEDING ATTENTION THAT IT DOESNT BOTHER THE PUPS, AND YOU CAN BREED HER. WITH MY EXPERIANCE... I HAVE HAD 1 ADULT FEMALE THAT DID HAVE THE LOWER AND SHE HAD 1 LITTER WITH ME, HERE BABIES DIDNT HAVE ANY PROBLEMS WHAT SO EVER. I HAVE TALKED TO THE TOP OF THE TOP BREEDERS IN SHIH TZU'S AND SOME SAY BREED THEM, AND OTHERS SAY DONT. THERE IS NO HARD PROOF THAT THEY PASS THREW OR ARE GENITIC. SO IF YOU FEMALE IS IN TOP CONDITION AND IS BIG ENOUGH TO BREED, I WOULD TRY IT AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS...WORST CASE YOU HAVE TO GIVE THEM AWAY... YOUR GETTING HER FIXED ANYWAYS, SO GO FOR IT:) HAPPY BREEDING!"
Imagine that, telling the person with the dog to go ahead and breed the dog anyways, when the OP said they wanted to breed it since it was a loving character, no mention of her health, confirmation to breed standards or condition, other than a hernia. And to sign it with "Your getting her fixed anyways, so go for it :) HAPPY BREEDING!" I about choked.
OMG, I could go on and on about this one, it figures that she is most obviously a puppy miller giving out bad advice. GRRRRR
