My 5 month old lab puppy vomited twice so far. We are traveling for the holidays. Also we gave him a Hartz Smokey Hambone earlier which was supposed to be "long lasting' but he demolished it in about 10 minutes.
Could it be the bone or could it be the stress of travel?

I bought Mia new treats for his bday last year, for a "treat" for him...but they caused him to vomit shortly after...they did not agree well with his stomach. So we stick to the "Good ole' faithful" treats!
Ok. So the bone could upset his stomach without being a serious problem like a blockage or something?
Did your dogs bounce back afterward?
He seems ok now. He's playful and he took one of his regular treats from me. I wanted to see if he still had an appetite. He's acting a little mushy, laying by my feet , but then he gets up and fights with the cat.
Our Basset would actually get so ill riding that she never rode except for a trip to the vet. She would vomit and actually growl if anyone tried to disturb her, and she was the sweetest, goofiest little thing. Completely different animal in a vehicle.
My brothers Boxer vomits as well. Unfortunately she doesn't get to go for many car rides, unless they are short and sweet.
But it could be a number of things. As long as he is back to acting normal, drinking and eating.
If he starts acting weird and refusing those things, time to get to the vet because then it is a serious issue that you are unaware of that needs to be diagnosed.
Puppy vomited again today a few hours after his first meal. I talked to the vet. She said that worst case could be intestinal blockage but otherwise probably instestinal irritation. And the fact that he is holding down water is a good sign.
She suggested feeding a bland diet of cottage cheese or meat baby food mixed with Vaseline.
Never heard of this before but we'll give it a try.
I agree. I thought it sounded strange. But I trust our vets office so I tried it and it seems to have worked. Puppy held down his strange meal of beef baby food and vaseline. No vomiting. This morning we fed him his regular food. Half of what he would normally eat though. Its been almost 4 hours now and he has not vomited.
I never heard of feeding a dog Vaseline before. It wasn't much. 3/4 cup of baby food or cottage cheese to 1/4 cup vaseline.
