I was wondering if anyone ever had their dog or cat taged with the identity tags into their dog/cat. I was thinking about it,but I do not want anything that maybe painful for my little boy. Please let me know if anyone ever got this done to the dog, and was it worth it?
Microchipping is the way to go. All the shelters have scanners so if your dog gets picked up they will be able to contact you.
I am told from friends of mine who are breeders, that here in NY, it is the policy for all shelters to automatically neuter of spay any animals they apprehend. When they are chipped they cannot alter the animal. This is especially good if you are a breeder or if you have show dogs that you do not want to have altered.
My vet prefers to chip them when they are being spayed or neutered because they are already under anesthetic. They say the needle is a bit thicker then a normal injection. But my breeder does it in her home and says the animals don't even feel it. Then again she breeds Labs. I think you can hit my Lab over the head with a brick, as long as there's a cookie in front of him he won't even notice.
