We have a 3 year old Chihuahua and she does not have the gum tremors that you described, but she's the only Chihuahua we've ever had, so in her case, I would say it isn't common. Can't speak for anyone elses.
I would definitely talk with the vet. Could these episodes be small seizures???? That is the first thing that came to mind when I read your post. I would want my baby looked at just to be on the safe side. Let us know the results.
a lot of times if a puppy had distemper and manges to beat the odds and survives it, they have neurological damage and the "gum chewing" is usualy the most common side effect of nerve damage. I wouldn't worry about it, but let a vet check this out and see if s/he doesn't agree.....
well I think that it could be more of a seisure (sp?) but if you can try to get some more info by either vet or on the internet. I have had chihuahuas all my life and I have never herd of this. all I can really say it to talk to your vet about this and see what you can so and what sre your choices are.
Hi! I have a one year old Great Dane and he does the same thing. His jaw will just go like he's chewin gum. Makes me nervous cause he drools when it happens too. Also kinda goes in a daze but it only lasts a few seconds and rarely ever happens. The thing with him that I wonder if your dog does is Max will take a huge wad of my blanket and suck on it. But while hes sucking (I believe he's sucking on it because there are no bite holes or anything) he whines. And my blanket becomes covered in saliva. Does your dog do that? Did you find anything else out on it?
