my parents GSD has some long hairs on her, she had straight hair as a pup and white, over the years she has become more tan Buff colored so they say, like the pic and the hair on her shoulder blades is curly and long. Kind of bazaar we thought since she was pure but we did not realize until now there were long coat GSD's I guess maybe that is what she is part Long coat. I don't know, sounds good.
Yes there are long coated german shepherds, often ppl call them shiloh shepherds. A lot of them are heavier set and bigger boned, and have a less sloping stance. They resemble what shepherds used to be before breeders tried to "improved" the breed and totally messed it up.

hi dogsr: Yes there are definitely long coated GS's they were featured on the eukanuba dog showws this year too and the AKC shows as well they are registered purebreds and quite popular and of course gorgeous my GS/ chow has a longer than normal coat and her 1st owner called her "Fluffy"(ugggggh! soooo unoriginal!) I renamed her "Chyryn"(I made that up it sounds unique and special and expensive(she needed the self esteem lift.
Kohl is quite a beauty. I think the old body type of GSDs looks much better than the more modern ones. The newer type looks like it is weaker in the hind end than the more square ones. They look like they are about to start walking with the whole lower portion of the hind leg on the ground like rabbits do sometimes.
thank you lorrix =) both the black and tans are no longer with us. they passed several years ago at the ages of 11 and 13. they were/are all sweet but becky, the one to the far right, was such a devil as a puppy lol. she tried the patience of a saint lol.
thanks arachyd ...... i agree completely with you about the GSD's you see now. they look like they are crippled and i wince everytime i see one walk.

Scout, The Shiloh was bred by Tina Barber when she first came to the americas. She came with a Liebestraum, and a Wikingerblut female and I believe bred with a Piastendamm Shiloh Shepherds is her (TM) More info can be found here http://www.shilohshepherds.info/origins.htm
She intentionally bred out the sloping hips to make the shiloh more like the original breed, unlike todays breeders that have bred for sloping hips etc.
I recently watched one of the dog show on TV and was totally dismayed to see the mess of a dog that was judged to be the best of the group, it was all slope and show, so totally deviated from the original breed to make it almost unidentifiable. Todays breeders have messed up the GSD, it is disgusting.
OMG scout they are very pretty i love them. One time me and my mom were THINKING about getting a GSD and saw a 8 week old female for only 250 so we went to look. well she was all black ok we were fine with that. well the male and female could not even see each other there was a mean looking chow behind them.when we saw the pup i wasn't happy. she was very cute almost jet black loved it but she looked like a chow and had a mussed in muzzle me and my mom concled they were BYB's. I wanted her but if i got a mutt i would have to get it from a rescue.
The Shiloh Shepherd is NOT anywhere near being original as far as the German Shepherd goes. The creator of the GSD did not breed mastiffs, he bred versatile shepherds. Shilohs are nothing like what the GSD was long ago. To compare the two is almost sickening.
