I did not say the shiloh shepherd WAS the ORIGINAL GSD, I said they were bred to be MORE LIKE the original dog, rather the fragile, painful to watch, GSD that breeders insist are the standard. Todays breeders should be admitted to the closest mental insititute if they believe they have done anything but RUIN what was once an awesome breed of dog.

ok, then i misunderstood your original post on this thread. the way i read it, it sounded as if you were saying that coated german shepherds were shiloh shepherds, and they aren't. they are 2 very different breeds.
there are lots of breeders out there trying to recreate the original gsd, like the king shepherd and shiloh shepherd breeders, but sadly, imo, the original gsd has been lost completely and forever. the american breeders have completely destroyed the breed, temperament wise, healthwise and structurally.
imho, in order to get a decent pet gsd, or at least as close to one as possible, you would probably be better off going thru a byb.
we germans call old german sheperd there are more cuddly than the reg.breed . my old neighbor had 1 his name was rufus he was just so cute.. he had pretty long thick fluffy hair even when he was older it made him look like a big puppy all his life... i remember coming home from scholl one day and there was a cross in the yard with his name on it ... he was put alseep that morning due to illness... i dont remember what he had but to this day i can smeel his sence
