I have 10 puppies two different litters, and just a few days ago we started feeding them puppy food, today I noticed two of them trying to poop and having problems one of the puppies even tries pushing when hes sleeping, we are feeding them Bil Jac puppy and using water to soften it they are still nursing on their moms when we can hold them down, if there anything I can do now to make him go poor little guys is trying so hard and hes crying.
I am NOT a vet, I can tell you that pups should not have to work that hard to go potty, having raised puppies for quite sometime now, I know what my vet suggets BUT to be safe you should call your VET and ask them what they suggest.
Were these pups going potty by themselves and are now having a difficult time? How much do the eat each day?, there are so many variables that a VET needs to be consulted.....not knowing how much water each pup is getting and not knowing how much milk they are getting from thier mom I would almost bet they are not getting enough liquid.
By five weeks my pups are off mom, and on to puppy food with replacement formula mixed in, that way I can keep track of who is getting what each feeding.
Constipation can be or lead to serious problems for your pups, this is NOT a condition that you should let go on.
Call your vet...better yet, just take the puppy to your vet. I recently experienced this same situation with a four week old Saint Bernard puppy. He was doing the same thing, straining and giving the appearance that he was constipated. Not the case. After being examined by my vet, the little guy had to have surgery because he had a kidney stone! And he was straining trying to empty his bladder. Vet said it wasn't common for a dog that young to have kidney stones.
It's been a week and he's doing much better now, he's smaller than his brothers because of this, but he's alive. He is now on a special diet and most likely will have to stay on it his entire life.
So please take your little one to the vet. If I hadn't taken my little guy when I did, he'd have died within a few days.
You need to call your vet and fast! Years ago we had a litter of rottie pups. i let some play in my messy room.I was only like 7. well a little while later a puppy looked almost lifeless. my mom took her to the vet and a toy was stuck! they had to give her meds to help it pass. we were very lucky they didn't have to do surgery. she could have died.

i dnt think bentley has went poop today and im worried that something is wrong with him- he is acting normal tho but normally he goes 2 times a day but today when we went out side i was playing with daisy well keeping her busy because she likes to pester bentley when he goes potty so it gives him private time on the side of the garage- and he must of went tho he came aroudn wanting a treat and he only does that when he goes potty but was it poo? so this evening i will keep a eye on him and see if everyting is working well.
this was the problem with bentley he was straining to go and it was sticking like half way out and he couldnt get it out and i tried to get it. yuck i know but hes like one of my kids so i wasnt really that bad- but it woudlnt budge it was stuck. so the warm bath and the desolving and cleaning him up did wonders but now with all these things it could be has me thinking a trip to the vet tomororw would help ease my nerves/.
