Wow that seems really high to me. My vet charges around $50 for teeth cleaning (including anaesthesia). If he sends home antibiotics then that is extra but that is usually only like $15.00 more. For Lacy's heartguard (6 month supply for a 25lb or under dog) it is $27. So all together here teeth cleaning, antibiotics and heartworm preventative for 6 months would be less than $100.
I have never paid for a teeth cleaning, I brush my dogs teeth on bath day, and have the scraping tools to do it myself.....vet says they are in great shape so until he says they need to be done I just keep doing it myself but I have asked about prices and its 75.00 for my miniature schnauzers...
I just got an estimate to have Abbie's teeth cleaned, and I'll probably have to save for it. They said $300 to $500, for the cleaning, $200. for a geriatric screening, and $250. for a sonagram and some other tests, because she had an irregular heart beat about a year and a half ago. So I'm looking at between $750. to $950, to have her teeth cleaned.
With office call, anesthesia, and anti-biotics my vets charge between $70-100 depending on size. $20 more for a special sealer that is supposed to prolong the need for cleaning by 2 or 3xs. This is also a good time to do the OFA hip x-rays.
AbbiesMOM- Is there any way that they can just sedate Abbie and NOT put her under? It seems like it would save a huge amount of money AND a huge amount of risk. Or are there teeth to be pulled and stuff?
