My dog is passing gas through out the day. I changed his dog food two month ago (Nutro for sensitive stomachs) because of his stomach. I have not increased his food intake (3-4 cups a day). He is a Rhodesian Ridgeback & Lab mix, 92 pounds. It is driving me crazy. Does any one have any home remedies for eliminating dog gas? I want to try a few things before I take him to the vet. No “gas” jokes, please.
One thing that can cause from severe gastric upset to no problems at all (depending on the individual dog) and almost everyone gives to their dog at some time or other is dairy products. Once they get out of the puppy stage dogs cannot digest lactose and while reactions vary, some dogs get gas. If your dog is sipping your morning coffee (with cream), a piece of toast (buttered), getting a bite of cheese or even finishing off a child's bowl of cereal (with milk) it could be causing gas. One of our dogs reacts to ham by becoming gassy within a few minutes of eating it. Another of our dogs has random days when she's gassy and we haven't been able to figure out the cause except that when she was younger and thinner she didn't have gas at all. Now that she's several years old and has the barrel-shaped body of a mature, overweight labrador she has gas a lot of the time. If your dog is overweight it may be a factor.
