Check this out. These people posted an ad locally about their boys' Christmas puppy. Seems that the dog is 7 weeks old (very young to be completely housetrained) that they have had since Christmas. (Hmmm, let's see, they have owned the dog for all of 4 days, wow, long time eh?)
It seems they have a new house and just cannot get this puppy trained, so they want to dump him. I'd really love to send them an email or call them and give them my .02 cents worth.
How sad that a living puppy is given as a gift, then disposed of, like used wrapping paper, when he magically doesn't housebreak himself in 4 days.
"FREE Dog name buddy hes 7 weeks old boys received as Christmas present but we just purchased new home and are unable to train him. Hes 1/3 terrior, 1/3 lab, and a third pitbull. Very cute"
Well, the people are total idiots, anyway. How can a dog be 1/3 of 3 different breeds? Even if one parent was purebred, and the other a mix of 2 breeds, that would make him 1/2 of one, and 1/4 of the 2 others.
At the high kill pound here they "cleared out" ALOT of animals (poor babbies). well most the time they would have 50 cats then they had 20. or most the time 40 dogs then 21. well i looked to see who was up for adobtion they got 12 pups! they never have pups hope they get homes :(
They got a strange amount of kittens to. i think people our more likely to dump kittens at animal shelters then dogs.

Thats so sad. I have not seen ads yet of people getting rid of their christmas pups yet. But I have seen some equally upseting ads over on our craiglist.
Lets see someone getting rid of three cats because they are due to have a baby.
Several dogs are being rehomed because hubbys are being deploys. One in particular had 2 dogs in the photo but only the youngest is being rehomed.
Someone dumping their cat. Older 4 yrs old and declawed. Dumping her because she works full time and goes to college. Oh and also because she started dating some that has asthma and and allergies. (can you guess which is the real reason the cat is being dumped?)
Oops on the above one make that 2 cats. Just saw another post by the same woman and for the same reason.
One had cat since few weeks old. Aquired while pregnant. Realized its hard taking care of a cat and a baby so the cat goes.
Another got dog a few weeks ago. But to hard to travel with the dog so off she goes.
Another giving away a 6mth old chow mix because they are pregnant.
Here is an uplifting story guys: I read in Reader's Digest that a Marine guy who was already in IRAQ found a lil puppy that was right in the fighting zones ducking bombs and ied's and he cared for him and the rest of the unit would feed him too and this marine arranged for him to get out and when this marine got home(he had to wait cos dog took longer to get home) about 4 months later his military friends flew the dog to his airport! isn't that cool?
Hey guys: I totally agree wbout how sad that is. It happens here all year round unfortunately! I mean why even accept it why not ask the giver to donate the puppy to aanimal services organization(like one that would train the puppy to be a service companion dog for an emotionally or mentally disabled organization and help out the clients(however that mix may not be the BEST choice ever made)
I totally wish it were against the Law for people to give pets as presents! I mean you cannot sell people(babies to couples) or little children to people- our society would be shocked, yet everyone thinks nothing of cloning animals or selling baby animals to research facilities! ugggggghhhhh!
I check craigslist daily, so far no major new posts. Havent seen any like that anyway. We had one of our golden pups returned to us years ago....NOT the people we sold her to. We sold her to a family my husband worked with, they divorced, broke our contract and sold the dog through the paper without telling us anything. I found the ad compared phone numbers and realized it was one of mine. Called them and basically got "too bad, she's gone and we don't have any info on the people that took her, they paid cash" ARRRRR! I was fuming mad. --They sold her for more than they paid us for her saying they wanted the money they'd put into her back. So....the next home was the people had just built their dream home and well, a puppy didn't fit and made messes...so they sold her. The third home she was playing with their small breed dog and scratched her eye, before the small dog got seriously hurt, they called us and offered her back. FORTUNATELY the last page of the contract the original buyers had signed had followed the dog everywhere. Yes, we took her back, worked with her on a barking problem then found a wonderful home for her with a lady with huge acreage that had lost her elderly golden to cancer the year before. Anyway, yeah some people just dont think things through.
i know how much you would like to give them an earful for being so stupid and heartless, but maybe emailing them with siggestions on how to housebreak the puppy would go further ? maybe it owuldnt because they sound like complete aholes, but you never know.
Doesn't it make you so mad, to read all the reason's they turn them back in. Something else that makes me mad, is the people who sell their puppies out of the back of a pick up truck in the wal-mart parking lot. There were a few this year the day before Christmas I saw some Golden pups, and the lady we rescued Maggie from, had Mini Schnauzer's for sale at wal mart. That really upset me, I wanted to go get them all, but that just supports them and makes them go get more to sell.
A friend of mine has a co-worker that has a 7 weeks old dachshund her hubby bought her for Christmas and can't seem to get it potty trained. Boy, are they in for a rude awakening. I feel sorry for the dog because she has not taken it to the vet and thought it probably had its shots already. My friend is trying to convince her to go to the vet but has been not been successful so far.
