I have a 12 week old AB (male) that I got when he was 7 weeks old. We are attending puppy kindergarten classes and going lots of places together for socialization purposes. The biggest problem I'm having is his biting. he bites HARD. I've tried lots of tactics to curb this, but nothing seems to work. I've tried holding his muzzle closed and telling him "no bite". I've tried a shaker can. i've tried a water gun. I've also tried holding him by the scruff of the neck and shaking him a bit while telling him "no bite". NOTHING works. he is growing at an alarming pace so I really need to get this problem fixed pronto. any ideas?
sounds like deja vu to me...had the same problem..my vet told me to start being very stern with him..even to the point where i would hold him down on his back..belly up until he settled down..but only worked half the time..i started taking him to the beach every day and running with him in the water or in the sand...hes mellowed out alot...i think they just have alot of energy and if they dont get it out then the tend to get aggresive..try wearing his little butt out (lol) and see how it works for ya..good luck!!!
Mine is almost 5 months and is still doing it. He likes feet hands my 4 year old daughter when shes outside running around so we have been trying everything I dont want this to get out of hand. Its just mouthing and chewing but still needs to stop. I have heard to hold them down and to not hold them down. When I have held him down it only settles him for a little while then he will go right back most of the time. Try giving him one of his toys in place of you. I'm all about the Dog Whisperer and Its me or the Dog! Ive heard to get them off of you and then turn around and ignore them not touching or eye contact because when they mouth and you yell they get a reaction out of you just like children do. Thats all I've got maybe it'll help.Id like some suggestions too. I also have a problem with aggression towards other dogs. We have 3 others at home that hes great with.
Hi I tried yelping high pitched. It sounds funny to do but it got the attention on my 15 week old AB and she is much better now, having said that she still has her moments. I started doing that yelp then a "no bite" after when I got her attention and now when she is chasing the kids in fun and starts getting carried away all I say is "no bite" and she listens well. Hope this helps.
