Hi Everyone, I am a mom of 5, we have 2 labs, Lex and Lana. 2 chihuahuas, Miles and Chili. A 40 year old Parrot I inherited from my Grandma. A duck named Emril and 5 chickens. And a snobby cat we all love named Ashley. I have been lurking around the forum board for months and thought I would finally sign up and say Hi.
was actually going to comment about that, Right now I am feeding them Eukenuba but one of my chihuahuas Miles I think has allergies to it because he chews the heck out of his hind paw so I wanted to switch over to a raw diet or was thinking of that B.A.R.F. diet. so.. anything you can tell me about a raw diet would be good
I give my dogs chicken legs, wings or thighs for breakfast, then I give each one a couple cups of raw hamburgers mixed with fresh veggies, parsley, raw egg, and salmon oil, a couple times a day. puppies get it 4 times a day. I don't make the dogs go through any fast, as I don't think it's necessary.I give them raw beef bones every other day for their teeth, and they stay really white. I guess the diet I use is a basic one. Oh and once a week I give them each a whole, raw chicken, puppies get a raw cornish hen because they're smaller. It's better nutrition and I think it's helped my dogs. I have some who can't keep weight on with dog food and the raw diet really helps them. It helps with allergies because there are no preservatives in it, and you don't find fleas on dogs who eat raw. You don't often find dogs allergic to raw food. Poo is smaller too, and is crumbly because digestion is better.

wow dixie sounds like your dogs eat very well. simple too I think I may give that a try, kind of embarrassed i never thought of the way dogs eat in nature. raw. so since you give your puppies cornish hens I think thoes would be small enough for my chihuahuas
I was always told that if you give chicken bones to dogs that the bones will splinter and hurt the dogs stumach. I have been told this by numerous people, and I don't give my dogs chicken bones anymore but when I did they didn't have any problems. I don't recomend giving any dogs chicken bones.
p.s. I have a chihuahua 13 horses, 2 cats, about 20 something head of cattle, 1 goat, 3 pigs, 4 chickens adn quail, 3 rabits, and 2 hermit crabs.

yes, I give my dogs raw bones too. They are very important for calcium and magnesium. It isn't the raw bones that cause a problem. It's the cooked ones because they are harder and more brittle. I've never had a dog get a bone stuck in it's throat or anything bad. Theree can be bacteria in the food, but the dogs' digestive tract is so short that stuff passes through quickly. I worm once a month on a regular schedule and that works fine, just as you would normally worm.
