why are breeders selling puppies for valentine's day already?
i have seen so many valentine pups for sale in newspapers and wondering

hi everyone just asking why have there been so many buy this pupy for valentines and crap for heavens sake that is at least 1 and a half months away? why do breeders do that. people should want the puppy for the puppy and not for the ad. just curiouis animal miracle

Breeders are not the only ones card companies, candy companies and stores are already gearing up for the next holiday (valentines day).

I believe at no matter what time of year or what season, a breeder will post ads for pups with an attractive reason for the season. Such as perfect pet to play with in the spring, great dog to enjoy the summer with..etc. A quick cure is to just not read the classifieds for pets for sale.

Because many of these "breeders" are lowlifes who are in it for the money. They will peddle their "products" using any kind of gimmick. For them, it is all about the money.

I have to agree with you there Houndz
They are just preying on people emotions. Around valentines people are loving and by things like teddy bears so why not a puppy... Shame

I love puppies, they are too adorable...so its a good selling point...but, HONEY, if your listening:

A "holiday" is an idiotic reason for acquiring a dog. No wonder so many end up as unfortunate and unecessary statistics.

If someone wants a pup, they want a pup...calling them "Valentines Puppies" doesn't make them want the dog anymore...it's pointless in reality.

momamia you are right they should want them for them and not the gimic. just sort of wondering because i am getting my frienda chihuahua and they are bumping the price up for the holiday how stupid right i think so so the dog before was 500 and now it is 1000 and it is like a 10 ounce tea cup chihuahua but ia m keeping my hopes up cause i keep e-mailing the owner and asking for a lower price for him. thankz for replaying everyone.

My personal opinion is that if a breeder has to use a "gimmick" to sell puppies there is a problem. I'm more of the mindset that you want puppies to enter a home in the most routine, mellow part of your year - so for me, I won't let puppies leave me at Christmas time. (if they are ready at Christmas, they stay here an extra two weeks) I've never seen a good, responsible breeder have to say a puppy is a "holiday gift". I actually don't think dogs should be given as gifts unless the person receiving the "gift" is part of making the decision. If they are going to be responsible for it's costs and care for the next 10-18 years wouldn't it be nice if they got to pick it out? Chose the breeder? Ask their questions and prepare for the responsibility of a puppy? Just a thought...

Though I did go into Walgreen's a week after Christmas and they already had Valentines candy out...
