You don't love your dog. If you did you would take the advice of all these wonderful people. They are very knowledgeable! If you don't have a cat, get rid ofthe cat food. If you do, put the cat food where the dog CANNOT get to it!! Better yet, find that poor dog a new home.
Well, I wouldn't go so far as to say she doesn't love her dog and it needs to be rehomed, but she sure isn't listening to reason. She's just reacting to posts rather than really reading them and thinking about them and maybe doing a little research herself.
Hej I can understand you getting irritated pinky. Alot of people hacking on you because you wrote a little post on what you feed your dog never to know that you would become a topic. But thats how we learn, we say something we donšt understand is harmfull and people who do know will tell you. I am as I said not trying to deffend you I work with this, it's my job. Please take what I said into concideration. Chihuahuas are known for being manipulative and stuborn. Donšt give in take our advice when saying that this is gonna turn into a bigger problem then you believe both in health issues and in behavior issues. You do what you want, if you want advice in how to make the situation without giving your dog stress issues I'm here and I'm glad to help. Hey, you'd get the advice for free :)
pinky i dont think you dont love your dog or anything.true some dogs are picky but just keep trying different dog foods, say your parents let you grow up on only pop, chips, chocolate, cake.would you really feel or look great older in life.cats and dogs everyone knows are different thats why they need the differnt balance in food.
Can anyone give some referrences that cat food is bad for dogs?
Obviously Nine Lives is a crap food, but it seems to me that it's the other way around. You shouldn't feed dog food to cats because cats need the amino acid, Taurine, and more overall protein because they're obligate carnivores. The only thing that's going to harm a dog is the greater protein% which, actually, growing puppies need more protein and those of you who feed raw and no veggies are also giving a high % protein diet.
And if the cat food is being mixed with dog food, then the total % protein will be lower than just feeding cat food alone.
P.S. Spoiling your kids is one of the worst things you could ever do for them.
i have cats and dogs. its a big NO NO to feed them cat food. your dog isnt a cat so dont feed it cat food. My dog is really picky to i put his food down. If he doesnt eat it i pick it up. By the time i feed him again he is ready to eat. I only had to do that twice before he decided he wasnt getting anything else. I did end up changing his food but he was eating the other food. I just simply found another type. What he ate when he had full run of the neighborhood.
The cat food is being mixed and if it has too many calories, then cut the serving amount. Cat food is pretty much the same as dog food except that cat food doesn't contain near as many carbohydrates as dog food.
ok u guys, I'm not real big on apologizing so here it goes.
I just reread all of the posts and I would like to say that I'm sorry for not listening to you guys! all you are doing is trying to help and I was being stoborn. I am sorry for that. I would like to say that I am going to try to stop feeding my dog cat food. (I don't know if she's going to like it or not) but I am going to give it a try. I feel really bad that I'm being stoborn and the way that I reacted wasn't very aproprate either.
thanks for all the posts. I took a look at the link also thanks pyrmom.
I have a very picky eater too. While I never gave him cat food, I did make the mistake early on of catering to his pickiness and changing his food often. Gunny's description was my exact scenario. Merphy would not eat for days, holding out for something better and I would give in worried that he would starve to death. I finally put my foot down, decided on a food, and that's what he gets. I felt bad that he doesn't enjoy his food, since I get to pick and choose to eat what I want to eat. But, I had to realize that Merphy is not a human. As much as he is my baby, he is a dog, and if I do love him, I need to do what's best for him. I now feed him Innova EVO mixed with raw carrots, and he actually prefers the carrots? Once he finishes all of his food, carrots AND dry food, I give him a "treat" of a whole green bean (Woo Hoo, huh?). Its a win-win situation, he now enjoys his food, I rest assured that he is getting the proper nutrition, and he gets a [healthy] "treat" for dessert.
My cats get Maximum Nutrtion Vitalia, I have a part Maine Coon, that adopted my yard. Fortunately she came here fixed, three years ago. She is vetted every year, now, I am getting her in at night. If she does remain outdoors she has a well insulated secure cat house on the deck. Now, I thought she had asthma, but, it turned out to be significant fur ball problem. With the above food mixed with Urinary Tract Formula by Purina One, she is doing quite well.
I have three other cats that also do well on the above foods.
With 4 cats and 6 dogs, I feed moderately priced foods.
As I said in a previous e mail the dachsies and feist do well on Iams.
I have been told that basically the only difference between Purina ONE and Pro Plan was politics. They used to sell the Purina ONE in grocery stores only and Pro Plan in pet stores, etc. only. Now, you can find both in pet stores, but I don't know if you can find Pro Plan in grocery stores. I never go into the pet section at grocery stores. Which, this would also explain the price difference for the most part as well. Of course when they have big grocery stores selling a product, they would be able to lower the price. That's what I hear anyway.
