Reba, my pom is the first and only long coat dog I have ever had. I got her from a shelter about 5 or 6 weeks ago, I think. When I picked her up from the shelter she stunk bad so I took her to a groomer. They showed me how to brush her undercoat out. I brush her out about every other day depending on her mood.
Now I my question is when she 'goes' she will occasionally get dingle berries that stick to her rear end hairs. It's not runny poo but well hubby calls it dog style skid marks. lol When this happens I will wash her rear end with the shower head on a hose. What do I do? Should I have her trimmed? Like I said I have never had a long coat dog before so.....
I am taking her in for grooming on Monday so I need to know what to ask for. Any suggestions?
Cody is at the groomers as I am typing this, when he goes to the groomer she usually cuts the hair around his anus a little shorter, I don't particularly like the look at first but I know it is better for him and for keeping the dingle berriers away. It doesn't have as long of hair as yours but sometimes he does get the little berries hanging on and I really don't like that! Just about the time it is time to take him back to the groomers the length of the hair around his anus is the length I like it. LOL, I can not believe I am typing a response to this question, I really need to get a life, I mean really, discussing my dogs anus, give me a break ! lol Really, it was a good question, just not an everyday topic for me. Here is a pic of Cody, sorry I don't have a shot of his bummy! That is one of his favorite toys, a good old milk carton!
Does hubby know about his trimmer? My hubby and boys share with the dog but I think even they would draw the line with me using thier timmer on him! Thanks for the idea though and if I ever have to use it I just won't tell them, what they don't know won't hurt them or me!
Codysmom, This summer we frequented the beach and the salt water seems to mat their bum hair, I was desperate to get it cut. Normally I would grab the clippers but I thought maybe the beard trimmer would be better since it's made for thick and coarse hair. Turns out I was right.
After it became part of my grooming routine he saw me using it and had me pick him up a new one. lol.
Also, the clippers does vibrate and make much more noise which spooks our girls, the beard trimmer is considerably lighter and easier to manuver!
lmao, Michelle. My hubby would shoot me. Maybe I will pick up another one on my next trip into town.
Codys mom, it is a funny topic but hey what can we do. lol After telling my sister in-law some stories about the bizarre and discusting antics of my kids she is really putting a lot of thought into having kids of her own. The finger painting with the diaper was the kicker. Nasty!!
