Okay I have a question.. do ya'll think Smokey is a bit on the skinny side? If so, how can I put some weight on him? Here's the story.. we got him at around a year old and he'd been a totally outside cat. Well, we made him stay in for atleast 8 months and Id put him on the dog cable (ALWAYS supervised) and with Ruby's (my min pin) harness on; so he couldnt run off not being familiar with where he was and all. After 3 months of that, I let him venture outside with me close behind and hes content just being in the yard. I do always make sure to bring him in if Im leaving the house and before dark (which he doesnt like but I cant bring myself to let him stay out). He has access to fresh food/water on the back porch (he spends most of his time in the back yard) but I never see him eating much. He eats some inside but not as much as Id like to see him eat. Hes not crazy about canned food but I do offer it to him atleast once a day. FYI: He is neutered and UTD on his shots and has been tested for feleuk and FIV (-). What can I do to put a lil more weight on him? Or am I just paranoid?
I think he looks fine, but it's easier to tell by feeling them. Most people keep their cats too fat which is bad for their health. If you can still feel his ribs with a layer of fat covering them he’s good.
So maybe Im just paranoid.. lol. I cant help it tho, I just want the best for my boy :). Everyone laughed at me when I came up with the idea to put the harness on him and let him wander around the length of the dog cable but it made more sense than restricting him to the length of a leash and made him much happier.
Hey K9, My cat stowed away in my camper basement last summer and we were a LONG way from home when I found him. I had to go to Walmart and buy a harness for him and everyone laughed at me too but ya gotta do what ya gotta do. He was small too until I had him fixed and then he puffed up. I feed him about 3 times a day and hes just a big guy. Your guy is gorgeous, what a face. Like someone said b/4, some cats are just smaller than others.
Your cat is beautiful and I'm not a cat person. He has that long panther look and maybe that looks skinny to you, but as people, cats have different builds, and maybe his is just a long lean Brad Pitt body instead of that chunky John Goodman(garfield) look! If the cat is a lady cat, sorry.......
we have a cat that we took in when the neighbor passed away. he was allowed to roam free before we took him and his brother in. he was so skinny that i worried about him. he wasnt eating at all. he would get all excited when he heard the can opener, but would just sit in front of the dish looking at the food. i started pouring the juice from the tuna cans over his dry food and he ate like he was starving. i gradually weaned the tuna jiuce out of the food and he eats just fine now. he was bone skinny. now he is huge and filled out. our other cat phatboy, eats just as well and is on the lean side. i think cats , like people, just have different body structure. your cat is beautiful. he just has that long and lean body. i wouldnt worry about him as long as he isnt acting like he is sick. put a little tuna juice over his food here and there. cats love it.
