"much of it was proven with facts....facts that you can look up yourself. It is out there, you just have to look. "
That's the problem these days. People "google" anything, and then believe everything they read. If I wanted to, I could probably "prove" that the moon is blue and made of cheese. Just because someone wrote it, doesn't mean I'm going to believe it.
In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist.
We must never let the weight of this combination endanger our liberties or democratic processes. We should take nothing for granted. Only an alert and knowledgeable citizenry can compel the proper meshing of the huge industrial and military machinery of defense with our peaceful methods and goals, so that security and liberty may prosper together.
how true was he? And we did endanger our liberties with the Patriot act. With one sweep of a pen, our current president undid a huge portion of what our constitution sought to protect....

Just my opinion, but I have no use for the likes of Mr. Moore. I seldom express my personal opinions or feelings on "hot" off topic threads on here, but wanted to reply to this one.
He has put the proof to the saying that you can fit the facts to prove your point.
The fact is that he and his crew jeopardized troops and could (and in my opinion SHOULD) have been charged with treason.
His is a case of "being", rather than "reporting" the news. He is taking advantage of situations where we (as a nation) feel vunerable and is twisting his information to foster an even greater sense of distrust, fear and panic.
If he were to state that these are HIS own opinions, HIS view of things, HIS interpretation of events...fine, but he tries to make it look like he's spreading the gospel. Sort of like a modern day snake oil salesman. Just my opinion.
Uhh... when we are in WAR, you do not go against your country and your commander in chief the way Michael Moore does. It hurts our troops because it only helps the enemy. It doesn't help our country, it doesn't help your son over seas, and it doesn't help any other men and women fighting for us.
"More of our soldiers are dying as a result of Moore and his movie, and America is increasingly being threatened because of Moore's turncoat treachery. By falsely portraying our government in a negative light, as liars and manipulators, as well as our troops as baby killers and torturers, he incites blood-thirsty terrorists to strike at our homeland, our citizens and military personnel in an effort to weaken America's resolve to fight on to victory." Jon Alvarez
I agree with pyrmom and lifeofriley. Michale Moore is an idiot. His movies are nothing more than liberal claptrap and propaganda. Since when is this forum about liberal crap. I would state my views, but as a conservative Christian, I am sure I would be as bashed as someone asking a breeding question! Stick to pets and go to another forum for poitical stuff.
Hmm, well...I dont support the war in Iraq, and believe Bush misled our country into war with a country who didnt even attack us.
So, I guess I am as awful as M. Moore.....and I am sorry, but for anyone who is opposed to the war, I do not feel that we are jeopardizing the troops by questioning why we are there!!!
And I will NEVER EVER believe that I am jeopardizing my son by questioning that and would appreciate it if you do not accuse me of threatening my own child, for petes sake! As a mother, I take interest and make observations in my childrens lives and THIS is NO DIFFERENT.
Blame the IED's, the suicide bombers, our own president for taking us to a country, who somehow got "our oil under their sand!"
That being said, this is a democracy and people are entitled to different opinions on things in this country.
what is left of it anyways. Our constitution is no longer valid in many of our rights, as we now have the patriot act...
Trauma: Thanks for the link for Iraqi Body Count. It seems that the media in the U.S. is so slanted. We only hear what they want us to hear. I read and watch a lot of the foreign news channels to get a wider view of what is going on in Iraq and the world.
There have been massive demonstrations against the war in iraq across the U.S. in the past few years. But, you will rarely hear mention of the tens of thousands that attend these peace rallies on CNN, Fox News, MSNBC or the network news shows.
Instead we continue to hear negative views about all of those that criticize anyone that is against our children being sent over to a country that did not attack us.
Our government can say all it wants about the US not being in Iraq for the oil, but many of us, and much of the world, knows that if it weren't for the oil, Iraq would remain as it was, much like Somalia or Ethiopia. Those countries do not have oil, so it is highly unlikely that the US will become involved in the human rights issues there.
May your son and all the sons and daughters, mothers and fathers, brothers and sisters, that are over in Iraq, Afghanistan and the rest of the world stay safe until they return home to their families.
My son, thank god, will not be in entry teams or operations attacking the iraqis and trying to beat the insurgency. For that, I am most greatful. So, if anyone refers to him as a baby killer, I just blow it off as they have no idea what he does....
He is a Seabee...trained to build and to fight to defend himself and his other workers. They are not seals, but they are special ops and do work with seals on some missions. He travels with Marines.
I only fear for him trying to DO his job, or to go from job to job on a construction convoy.
Comments such as my son being a baby killer have no effect on me, as they dont know squat about what my son does over there and I am proud of him and for the job he does do....the Seabees do great things. I just wish they werent over there.
"His is a case of "being", rather than "reporting" the news. He is taking advantage of situations where we (as a nation) feel vunerable and is twisting his information to foster an even greater sense of distrust, fear and panic. "
that's my take on him. i remember in "bowling for columbine" he really set charleton heston up. it made me sick. i found out the facts actually surrounding the (i believe) michigan incident he was talking about and man oh man he misrepresented. i'm sure i don't agree with charleton heston's politics or the NRA but i wouldn't spend money again to support the kind of misreprresentation michael moore has done. a free video on the internet, to see what he's saying now, sure. but that's all.
Michael Moore, although presents a form of fact, presents them in a way that makes it appear worse than it actually is and slants the truth. I have seen "bowling for Columbine" and recently Fairenheit 9/11 (actully in school earlier today) and I have to say the more I see of Moore, the more I dislike him. "Bowling for Columbine" made me absolutely sick and upset at him. I mean, it happened, what he's doing is not going to make schools safer, but it jsut antagonizes people and makes others feel guilty.
I don't necessarily believe in everything the government does, although I am also a Christian conservative, but I have enough respect not to stir things up like that. I personally think that ALL the facts should be laid out on the table and left for the person to decide...not be told what to think by some yahoo...and that goes for both sides of the political spectrum.
Michael Moore is a fat, obnoxious, talentless POS, as well as being a traitor. He is no better than that media hound, Cindy Sheehan. I would not believe anything he said, ever. His "baby killer" comment really did it for me.
