Daisy is 5 months old and weve had her less then 3 months . we play with her and love her and she plays with bentley ( other 1 year old dog) daisy is very skidish and scared almost i guess i would say- she doenst get hit or spanked - it seems she is more skiddish then when we first got her. you will just come up behind her or anyting and she jumps a mile high- ive noticed this about her and i try to warn her im coming- like say her name so she knows im there. or touch her when shes sleeping and i need to wake her up but say her name first. why is she so jumpy? shes startled at everything- she acts like your going to attack her- bentley was never like this and is a very relaxed well mannored dog- daisy and bentley are so differnt- i know they are diffenrt mixes ect but everything i went threw with bentley was easy compaired to what im going threw with daisy- how can i make her not so skiddish and jumpy around us? thanks for the input
Sounds possibly undersocialized before you got her. I'd go crazy with puppy classes and trying to socialize. Cider got more skittish around 6 months even with endless socialization. Try hard to let her experience as many new people and things as possible even now.
Puppy classes could greatly improve her skittishness...it would socialize her and also give her more confidence. It seems that she gets startled easily which could be due to something that occured before you got her, something scary after (like a loud noise...my dog was skittish for a good month after he heard fireworks-stupid neighbors!), or just a phase. Teach her some tricks, commands, bring her to classes. Most of all, give her lots of praise, even for little things-just do lots of 'happy talk' around her, it will bring her out of her shell more. It doesn't sound like fear of you, but more jumpy and nervous. Build up her confidence...praise, training and tricks-which result in lots of praise-, anything like that... Good luck with her :)
