I was wondering what I could do to help keep the dog smell down in my house. I have a rat-terror mix that smells like death half of the time and I can't seem to get rid of it. Recently, my bullmastiff has started smelling REALLY bad as well. I have tried to change their foods/diet, but the smell prevails. Is there anything that I could do - vitamins, supplements, deoderizer???? Any suggestions would be welcome!
What are you have you tried and what are you feeding them now? I have 4 giant dogs and my house doesn't smell. I vacuum twice a week and they get baths every other month unless they get into something nasty.
i have 2 small dogs - one house trained and the other not- and my house dont smell like dogs or pee or anything- my dogs dont smell either- i dont know why they would smell- kinda odd- i use natures maricle on everything to get rid of doggie smells or accidents on the carpet and my pups get a bath every other week some times more if needed- maybe something medical is wrong? really i have no idea
you may want to take them to the vet and have their anal glands checked or rule out any other health issues. also, bathe them in skin-so-soft. it will keep their skin soft and it also repels fleas and smells heavenly.
Sorry I am so late getting this. Thanks for replying. I am currently feeding the large dog a rice/lamb mix large breed puppy food, and the little dog is eating a rice/lamb mix for small breeds. I vacuum every other day, use deoderizer on the floor (just for sweat purposes - they are both housebroken) and I use a wet washcloth to wipe them down every other day. I also brush them once a week. The treats that they eat are for bad breath, so I don't think that it is that. I haven't taken them to the vet over it yet, but could it be the heartworm medicine they are on (heartgard)? They seem to smell worse about a week after I give it to them, so I usually give them a bath around that time.
As for the food: what BRAND are you feeding? If its anything from the grocery store or WM, that is likely the cause. If it is any kind of Purina - bet the ranch on it.
As for the large dog & puppy food - you may want to consider getting him off the puppy & onto a good quality adult food. Many reputable lg breed breeders never feed puppy at all. They start them out on adult
I don't think it is the Heartgard.
Have you checked their ears? That is often the source of a smell. I'm bettin on the food tho.
