That's great. Cody and I are brushing up for this in the (hopefully) near future. What did they have you do? When we went to the Mutt Strutt this summer there was a both there that you could have your dog really tested or you could go thru the steps and see what he/she needed work on. The only thing Cody may have been disqualified for was that when he was in his sit position he did get up and move his butt over a little, but he sat right back down, didn't bother anyone, just had to adjust I quess. This was done outside with lots of people and other dogs walking around, kids yelling, lots and lots of distractions. you must be so proud of your two babies:)
Codys Mom, basically you have to walk up to a person, shake hands, and the dog cannot jump on them. Then that person (who is the judge/evaluator) will pet the dog, check their ears, both front paws, and brush them. The dog cannot bite, show resistance, etc.
Next you walk around the room on a loose leash. The dog can't pull or anything. You have to make turns, walk fast and slow, etc. Then you walk through a 'crowd'. For us it was the judge, trainer, and 2 kids. THe dog can't jump on them or be aggressive. Next you have to walk by a person holding another dog on leash. They can sniff, but can't play, be aggressive, etc. Then you move on.
Next they have to do down & stay, sit & stay, and sit/down & come. You walk about 20 ft away from the dog. They can't get up. Then there is some sort of distraction (we had the trainer walk by with a shopping cart) dog cannot be aggressive.
And finally, someone has to hold your dog while you go out of the room and out of sight for 3 minutes. An 11 year old held these two while I left the room. They didnt even care I left, just wanted lovings from the kids lol.
It's alot of training to get to this point but feels great!!
Thanks for explaining what you had to do. That is what Cody did this past summer at the Mutt Strutt and he did really good. We are just doing a refresher on a few things and hopefully he will pass. We have to get an evaulator down here and am not sure when that will be available. Congrats again and thanks again.
