my pup makes all kinds of werid and some times scary sounds when she is sleeping- daisy is 5 months old and some times sounds like she is having a horrible time breathing. and she snores it sounds like also - she is a very loud breather. i did mention this to my vet and he said alot of dogs snore and he told me his dog makes all these noises also and thats why his dog sleeps on the other end of the house- lol daisy also crys and whimpers in her sleep some times like she is having a bad dream and her eye are rolling back in her head its scary when she does this and i try to wake her up very calming so i dont scare her and it takes her a min to wake up and then she is fine- but then back to the werid breathing and noises. i thought she had asma or something but my vet doestn think so. some dogs are just loud breathers and make noises/ but you will want to talk to your vet about your situation and your dog.
It is disturbing for some to watch, but it is not painful for the animal. It's quite common in small breeds. But again, needs to be diagnosed by a vet, not to be confused with a collapsing trachea which is potentially life threatening. So try to get it on film to show him.
My toy poodle does this when he gets excited or if he gets a taste of a food that might be a little spicy, or warm in temperature.
If you need to soothe your dog, you can try gently rubbing the throat or giving the tiniest puff of air into the nose.
