I had a mixed breed duck that I called Cluck Duck that would hatch eggs for me. She didn't care if it was chicken or duck eggs, she'd take care of them all.

It was comical to watch her trying to get the little chicks to hop in the swimming pool with her, after she brought her new family outdoors and away from the nest.

can you eat duck eggs ? are there certain kinds of eggs from egg laying animals that you can;t eat ? do they taste different ?

Scout, the only difference in the eggs that I noticed was that the eggs of chickens that are on the ground, scratching and eating in the dirt, running on grass, as opposed to chickens that live in cages, eating just the prepared chicken feed is that I thought the eggs that were fresh from the free range chickens were better tasting.

The eggs fresh from the bird hold up nicely when you crack them open. The yolks stand up in the frying pan, instead of being almost watery and spreading across the pan.

Store bought eggs can be in storage for a long time before you buy them and consume them. There is nothing like farm fresh eggs for eating and baking.

Oft times, small farms having a flock of chickens will offer their eggs for sale. They would definately be worth the drive to go pick them up and see if you can notice the difference.

Yes, you can eat duck or goose eggs, probably any kind of egg that is laid. They taste pretty much the same. The goose eggs are so big though, you better have a family ready to eat those omelets.

I've heard of people eating emu and ostrich eggs, also. Those eggs are huge.

I did have a lady that would buy my goose eggs and make the most beautiful crafts. She would blow out the egg by breaking a small hole in one end and a smaller hole in the other end and blowing out the white and the yolks.

Then she would dye the eggs, using onions and other natural type dyes. They would turn the most beautiful almost rusty, maroon color. She then would carve pictures in the eggs. I still have a couple of her hand blown, carved eggs up in the attic. I haven't thought about those in years.

I'm wondering if anyone here on TP has done those hand dyed, hand carved eggs before?

I really can't tell the difference between chicken eggs from the store or the farm. One time when I was a kid I use to collect the eggs and bring then into eat. I was suppose to pick up all the eggs, but I never would because I loved to play with baby chicks. Well, for some reason someone else in the family picked up the eggs (they did know which hens I let sit and which I didn't). My dad would make breakfast on Sunday mornings and he cracked open and egg an into the pan fell a baby chick. This wasn't the only time I got in trouble for being a chicken breeder as a kid.

Most people thing goat milk would be gross, but I tricked so many friends into drinking goat milk. No one could tell the difference. The same with the meat of a lamb vs. a goat. Young and old were always tricked at my house when I was a country kid.
