HuskyHauler, it sounds like you read in my post the opposite of what I was trying to say. I hope I was clear that I don't equate racism with purebred dog breeding. Really I don't.

So many of us project our beliefs about people onto our attitudes about our pets. Look at the trouble many guys have with getting their male dogs neutered. It's not a giant leap to think that with attitudes relaxing about people from different ethnic groups getting together to make families, there could be a spillover effect. Like that changing trends in dog breeding might reflect a similar relaxation of attitudes. And yes, of course endorsing the human trend doesn't mean buying into the dog one. Biracial friends of mine have a purebred Chow -- I'm not trying to make a case for "one = the other" by any means. Though it did seem to encapsulate both for me when, like I said, I read about Tiger Woods and his Labradoodle.

People can say till they're blue in the face that they don't have a problem with mixes, just their breeders and their breeders' customers. I got it the first time: you're fine with the dogs themselves, just not the process that brought them into life. Not trying to pass for a mind-reader here, but it does seem you're saying that only a fool would buy one, and that the foolishness is because mutts are worth less than they cost. Frankly, it seems like they cost just as much to produce, if they come from two purebreds, as most of the purebreds out there cost to produce. Isn't the dollar value of all pets market-driven? Like other entities that can be bought and sold, I'd guess mixed-breed dogs have to be worth what people are willing to pay. Instead of jeering at someone for paying purebred prices for a mix (not that OP paid so much!), how about reflecting on the reasons mixes are getting more popular? That's what I was trying to do, and I'm sorry if it came off insulting.

I really don't think making fun of mixed breeds by comparing them to mixed cars is getting the point across intelligently and/or inoffensively. Only by continued patient, considered responses, thread after thread, post after post, ad infinitum, regardless of mixed-breed-breeder proponents' ill-considered and unknowledgeable responses, will we be able to get the result we seek. Making people feel defensive just doesn't do the trick, it probably does just the opposite. JMHO.

frenchbo. i would really love to see pics of your pup. english bulldogs and boston terriers were originally crossbred to develope the french bulldog breed. i am not for mixing the breeds, but at least this was not an outlandish mix. like say a frenchie/poodle mix.

your neighbor was irresponsible for allowing the oops , to happen. you were not. nor were you charged an outlandish fee for the pup, nor were you buying it under the pretense that it was a "designer" breed. no one here has ever had anything against the puppies themselves. they are the innocent ones. people are just trying to educate against the ones that purposely breed mixes for the sake of passing them off as some special "breed" and charging an outlandish fee. please do not take it personally that you are to blame for the breeders ploys. i am sure you love your pup and i am sure he/she is adorable. i hope that the pup remains healthy and you both have long and healthy lives. this pup is a lifetime commitment. deserving of all the love and care that you can give. please post pics. i use photobucket.com. its easy to use and you just copy and paste the url to here. here is a pic of my crew. hope to see a pic of your new baby.
