I have read through here and noticed that some of you mentioned that you breed for so called "dog shows" and they also mention hating puppy millers, backyard breeders ect....But you know what I think the issue is, I think its that the hobby breeders are jealous of the puppy millers and BYB because they (the millers) sell their dogs cheaper than so called "champion dogs" and the "champion" dog breeders are losing a profit... It seems to me that no matter why your breeding dogs whether for champion or mill it boils down to a profit problem.
I am not jealous of mills or byb. The only person I may be jealous of is the one who gets an entire litter finished.
I breed my dogs for myself. If I could keep everything I would. If I had to keep everything I would. Those two statements are different.
If I bred for profit I would breed more. I don't. I work for profit, I breed and show for my dogs. That is the difference in the end. I can take the fincial hit of not having a sucessful litter or it taking a year for all of the puppies to sell. If I have 2 puppies or ten it does not make a difference. If I have no puppies to sell its no skin off of my back.
My dogs are not my finances, I spend my finances on my dogs. Again, a difference.
Jealousy is far from the equation. Disgust and sympathy might be there, but Jealousy? No. I could not sleep at night if I just handed my dogs out to whoever walked up to me with cash. I take a responsibility for them that extends beyond the time they are in my home.
That is the difference.
But Jealous? So far you have made two rather bitter and pathetic posts. Thank you for the amusement.
On the best of days a dog is a dog, and on the worst of days a dog is a dog.
The difference between a "Jealous Hobby Breeder" and a Puppymill/BYB is that we view our dogs as pets and individuals that have wants, needs, likes, dislikes and deserve respect. Puppymillers and BYBs view their dogs as livestock - or machines - made to churn out a product.
I feel SORRY for them. They are missing out on the joy dogs bring to our lives. They don't fall asleep at night with 3 dogs weighting their legs down. They don't have a dog to kiss their tears when they are having a bad day. They don't have a dog to walk while they are jogging to lose weight or stay fit... In fact, their dogs are their "job" - not something they enjoy. I've talked to cattle ranchers who love their cows more than some Puppymillers care for their dogs...
Yeah, I'm jealous of that.
If wanted to make money, I'd play the stock market. Not gamble with innocent lives... That's like playing Russian Roulette with the neighborhood kids... just sick and twisted...
