I bought 2 shih tzu puppies on Wednesday, took the girls to the vet. Rosie is perfect, Bella has lux petella in both hind legs. The vet recommend surgery if it was to get worse as she gets older. She tucks her feet when she runs and walks like a cowgirl. I contacted the breeder, she didn't know of the condition. She said I coul bring the puppy back and exchange it for a different one. My daughter is in love w/ Bella. She picked Bella out when she was 4 weeks old. Someone suggested that I take the Breeder up on the offer. When I spoke to the Breeder for the second time she was saying that if the puppy would br crippled that she would have to put her down. We have olny had the girls for 2 days... I'm at a loss!! I'm looking at how much the cost of surgery will be and the love that my daughter has for Bella. This is our first family puppies. I just need some guidance. As you can tell I'm having trouble sleeping... I looking at all the lux pettella info.
wow, I am also very sorry about your situation. There are a couple of ways to look at this situation.
1)you could have the surgery performed on your pup(as I would do regardless of child's feelings)and pay the bill and hopefully have a non-deformed pup(which shouldn't matter anyway).
or 2)end up teaching your children an awful lesson on how dogs are disposable.
sorry that was a little harsh. However I would suggest looking up the disease and figuring out if your dog is going to be in any pain, if your pup is in pain now and the possible affects of what the surgery might be whether it be bad or good. Best of wishes and try to get some rest.
