I love Emma, but I quit smoking a week ago and her odor grossing me out. It's only 22 degrees here, but can't I just blow her dry? My dad says no. My parents have a 3 month old lab puppy and they both stink from chewing on each other. Don't yell at me that she just smells like dog. YOU aren't living with her!
No, my dog never smells, unless she rolls in something dead. (and she never passes up an opportunity to do that!) Honestly, she never even has bad breath, that I hear people complain about. And I rarely give her a bath. I think about once every 3 or 4 months, if that.
A dog's diet can make them smelly, or it could just be something around your house that they managed to get into. It's not your fault, don't worry. :) Give her a nice warm bath inside, and you can towel (my dogs have horrible towel manners) or blow dry her. You might even want to use the cooler setting on the hair dryer, if you have it. Ask your local groomer about a nice shampoo for her too. :)
If you're bathing her inside, no problem. Let her out right before her bath, blow dry her, and don't let her stay out for more than 5 minutes for the next 24 hours. (even when the coat is dry, their skin still takes a while to fully dry). Show dogs get blow dried on a regular basis. You're best off using lukewarm water (so it's not such a drastic temp. change) and blow dry on a warm setting.
My dogs only smell if they get wet (snow right now) and then they smell, wet. :) My Daizy actually smells really good naturally (kind of like "new baby"). But I also use a really good creme' rinse that the scent sticks around for about 2 weeks after - the creme' rinse is a must with Shelties - but the smell is a perk. :)
Your dogs all must not live it up very well, mine stink most of the time because they are outside during the day being dogs, finding every horse pile or dead critter to roll on and chew on it if at all possible. They come into the laundry room at night and go out during the day. This is a farm and there are a lot of things out there that just stink and the dogs love it, didnt say I love it.
