tonight will be Daisys first grooming appt. Daisy is half maltese and half bichon frise. Is there a certain cut i should ask for? or just the normal puppy cut that i get for Bentley ( bichon frise and toy poodle) Being half maltese she has straight hair and its longer with no curl in it or anything- but she gets matts pretty good daily and no matter how much i try and brush them out it doesnt make it any better- I dont want her hair to be short- since being maltese she looks adorable with her longer hair but i have to do someting to make her hair easier to comb threw and less matting- Im sad to be away from her for 3 hours- this is the first time shes been away from me. I started bentley out alot earlier with going to the groomers but Daisy has just been sick off and on and i didnt want to stress her out. But so far the vet siad shes fine. So im going ahead with the hair cut also will make it easier when she gets spayed to have shorter hair . but what kind of cut? a trim? i want her ears and face to stay longer i like that on her i just like her long i guess but i cant keep up with it so for her best intrests i think i should have some cut off- does every long hair dog have matting? or prone to matting? i do understand it wouldnt be as bad if i held her down and brushed daily as i read that im suppose to. but she hates it and wont let me but i do try to get the matts out when she will let me. any ideas? any shampoos that work best on matting? can you do a leave on conditioner that helos with knotts and tangles? I will post pic of Daisys new hair cut. I hope she does ok- the thing that bothers me is that they sit in a cage till its their turn- daisy isnt crate trained so it bothers me to think of her sitting in that cage crying to get out- breaks my heart. i did take her in to the groomers about 3 weeks ago for them to put a bow in her hair for me . she wouldnt let me do it- and she did awsome and sat there and let the girl comb her face hair and put the bow in so im hoping that this works out good, plus will give daisy some socializing skills- that she needs.
The cut would just depend on what you like best. I think I would go for the puppy cut. I know even with my schnauzers, if I cut the regular schnauzer cut they have a more mature look and I love that baby look. lol!! She will do fine. Put a picture of her on with her new look.
How did the grooming go? I agree with Merico on that Daisy sees herself as an alpha over you, which is why she behaves for the groomers. Why hasn't she really been out to socialize? You need to brush her everyday, maybe not all of her at once, but incorporate it into her daily routine. Like get up, bathroom, eat, rest, bathroom, play, groom, rest, etc. Extend the grooming sessions until you can brush her down at least once a day, and use treats to get her to behave during the session, as well as a firm hold and voice to show her who is boss. She will get to the point when all you do is get the brush out of the cabinet & she will come running. She may yelp or try to squirm, but just reassuer her and give her a treat and continue to brush her. You may also need to have different kinds of brushes to get the mats out of her coat. I have a normal dog brush, a mat spliter, a rake comb, and a curry comb for the girls. A good grooming session takes me about 20-30 minutes on each, a quick one only 15. Sometimes it takes longer if we've been out playing, etc. I hope this helps you out.
