I am bringing home my Golden Retriever puppy on Thursday. I was just wondering if anyone that had this particular breed of dog would be able to give me some stories on housebreaking. I know what to do, I am just wondering how quickly they learn and all that. Also, do you groom them at home or professionally? Thanks!
I do not own a golden, but my sister owns two. She grooms hers both at home, brushing them every couple of days and bathing them when they start to smell :) She found that they house trained quite quickly, I got my poodle at the same time she got her goldens, and they were both housetrained twice as quickly as my poodle.
I have three goldens. They were very easy to train, they really want to please there owners. Mine had a dog door and any time they looked like they were going to go we would go to the dog door and have them go out. They would potty outside and we would praise them as soon as they came back in. Duke was trained by 4 months, Duchess and Missy by 3.
I have two golden retrievers. Lily is a girl and she is just over a year. She was very good with going outside and only had a few accidents. We just got a boy golden and he is 10 weeks. He seems to be a little harder to train but he is doing well. All puppies are different but goldens are great pets. They both love to play with us and are great together. They are an excellent family pet. Training them to do tricks and obeying is also fairly easy. We groom them at home which consists of brushing them a few times a week and bathing when they seem dirty:) I also brush their teeth and clip their nail with little problems. Best of luck! I'm sure you will fall in love with your new puppy!
