visited my relatives in India went to Pondy and Chennai .
I feel sorry for the dogs in India . They eat everything in the garbage. They live in the street.I also noticed people feeding them in the road
I go every day to the beach area and feed maximum dogs I can. I buy biscuits from a store or food from restaurent . I became a good friend for the dogs in that particular area people might have thought I am a nut. My cousin said that . I did not care
I saw a show and a vet went to another country (can't think of were) were the government was going to kill the local dogs b/c some were giving ppl rabies. He went there and used a blow dart to give the dogs rabies shots. It was very nice and a few pregnent ones back to the US to have there pups. I said i want to go to all the countries like that and take all the dogs home and i wish i could.
Thanks for taking care of the dogs of India while you were home visiting family. I am sure they appreciated your kindness.
I feel so bad for that dog that has mange so severly. There was a story on Animal Planet recently, where they went to pick up a Pit Mix dog in Houston, TX. It had mange so bad. There was no hairs and the entire body was all scabbed over or bleeding from open wounds.
I actually cried over that poor dog, it was well fed, but the owners never sought out vet treatment to help with the mange and the dog ended up having to be destroyed. That one really hit me hard, as we have a Pit mix dog and love her so much. This poor dog, as much pain as he was in, was still friendly towards the animal control officer that picked him up off the street.
How sad, that the owners never came forward and never sought treatment for their dog.
Anyways, that is getting away from your story, but I wanted to share it. One of my best friends lives in the south of India, in Kerala. He also has 2 dogs.
Choose your friends by their character and your socks by their color.
Choosing your socks by their character makes no sense. Choosing your friends by their color is unthinkable.
I saw an animal planet a week or so ago, it was a white bull terrier with horrible mange. Some people found it dragging itself down the street. They had to pts, it was so bad. I thought of TraumaMomma when I saw it. I rarely watch those shows, they are so heartbreaking and maddening.

Scientists tell us the universe is made of neutrons, protrons and electrons, but they forgot to include MORONS! !
aww, how wonderful of you to feed those guys while you were there. a friend of ours goes home to india a few times a year to visit his family. he always says how terrible the situation is with homeless dogs. he packs up tons of big boxes of milkbones eveyr trip so he can feed all of them.
Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.
It is almost impossible to help the homeless dogs because there are homless people who compete with the dogs for their survival. It is a truth. The poorest of the poor eat anything from the garbage also. I am very sad on this I have seen it There is so much Economic development, increase of national wealth and so much improvment in India , Still there is a long way to abolish poverty completely where the population is almost a billion The gap between poor and wealthy is too big I hope and pray there will not be poverty where people will be able to eat good meals every day
Wow, that must have been hard for you to leave. That would haunt me. But I'm glad there are decent people out there like you who will try your best to help out and care for these poor dogs. I would've done the same no matter what anyone thought. It looks like some of them get around very well..some kind of food everyday, people interaction..etc, at least they get that! Thanks for taking those pics to show.
