I have a 16 month old mix male dog (puppy) and he is totally crate trained and potty trained. He is also fixed. He is settling in quite well. We are thinking of another puppy (female, 10 weeks old). My dog loves other dogs and wants to be everybody's friend. I am not sure what he would be like with another puppy and would this set him back since this puppy is not trained yet? any thoughts appreciated....
no it would not set him back at all. There may be a period where he is "jealous" or wants a little attention and may be naughty, but it would not set him back. Make sure each dog gets one-on-one time with you and you will have two well-rounded, well-trained dogs! Enjoy! :)
He's your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You're his life, his love, his leader. He will be faithful and true to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion
More than likely, the pup will learn from the dog that has already been trained...at least, that has been my experience. However, that does not mean that you can expect the new pup to hold it as long as your current one, etc. Your current dog may also regress a little if he sees the new pup having an accident, etc. Is there any way you can "baby-sit" another dog for a full day and night to see how your current dog would act? I know the shelter here has a 7 day trial period to see if the family's current pets will adjust to the new pet...it's worth looking into. I hope this helps!
