Just wondering if anyone else here has an Italian Greyhound. I have one and he is the most cuddliest thing. He is a the traditional blue but with a lone white spot on his chest and weighs about 16 pounds so he is kind of a biggy iggy. I am actually glad he is a little bigger so he wont get stepped on so easily. His name is Tater and is 1.5 years old. I couldnt imagine life without him.
I have met several Iggys and none are yappy. They are kind of an all or nothing breed. Mine has times when he is running full speed around the house attacking his toys like they were monsters or he is sleeping snuggled under a blanket somewhere. They are the best snugglers in the dog world (JMO) since they have very short hair coats they get chilly real quick so they like snuggling as close to a human body as humanly possible. They are very fond of their people. Its common that they are shy around strangers and will commonly lurke with strangers in the house but mine is the complete opposite,he loves new people a little too much and wants as much lovin from them he can get. I think with proper socialization the lurking could be overcome. Their most difficult trait is being hard to house train. Mine is actually not trained to go outside but is trained to use wee wee rugs in the bathroom. They also have very delicate legs and have a lower bone density and their bones break easily especially the legs and also have to be gassed for anesthesia because they do not handle the injectable kind very well. They are very special breed and would not consider them a first time dog owner breed but it would be possible with dedication. They require a lot of one on one attention and cuddling to stay sane. I have seen a lot of rescued Iggys because of owners lack of time to cuddle and the dog refused to bond after a certain period of time. Many dogs forgive people for their mistakes, Iggys arent such a forgiving breed, once hurt mentally or physically it will take a miracle to get them to forgive.
