Well I fed this stray cat that we found dog food (tye). She liked it but I also fed Tye lots of chicken and beef and lots of meats. I don't really know if that was good for her. She’s not with us anymore even though we had her for 5 years. It was weird because she drooled. I never know that cats could drool until I met Tye.
I know about dogs not really a lot about cats.
Also. On a different note she also stayed outside even during the winter. You couldn't get her to stay in the house even if you tied her up. She would meow and bite and scratch until you let her outside. And then she would be the nicest cat ever. But was that bad for her or what? We have a barn and lots of hay. (She would sleep in the hay) was that bad on her body or what? I was just curious.
Well i know cat food is bad for dogs but i would think dog food isn't that great for cats. My cat Winnie drools. I was told it was b/c she was taken from her mother to ealy and wasn't able to have the sucking feeling as long as she should have.
ya I really didn't know why she ever did that. she was a stray and she adopted us. for being a stray she sure loved to be cuddled. she wouldn't play with any toys or anything. she started to play with strings and everything and started to actualy play and then she died on january 13 of last year I know it's strange that she died on that day because she died on friday the 13th. she had a heartattack. it sucks.
but now I have another stray cat his name is waddles. he's such a cutie pie. and he eats dog food also and he's doing just fine. and he seems to like it. in fact he's a little pig. : )
Dog food for a cat long term is NOT good. Dog food has much less protein than what a cats body demands. Cat food for a dog is also not good since the extra protein can pack on the pounds.
As far as a cat staying outdoors I don't see a problem as long as there's some kind of shelter and hay/straw helps keep them warm.
On the note of drooling my cat does it too. She actually has a hair fetish only with me (?). Everytime I pick her up she sticks her head in my hair and starts drooling. She has done this from the time she was a kitten.
Sometimes drooling can occur when there are problems with teeth/gums. It can also occur if the cat is sick. We have taken her in for the drooling but everything checked out fine. She just has a strange fetish with my hair.
I wouldnt consider it the worst thing to feed a cat if its a stray it would be better than nothing at all and letting it starve to death. I have strays come up now and again and I will usually toss them some dog food since I already have it. It wouldnt make sense for me to go buy cat food for cats that might not even stick around and I dont really want anyway. Its not that I dont like cats they just reproduce a little too fast. Our so called shelter does not accept animals from people who dont live in the city limits and most of these cats are wild anyway and would chew your hand off before you could touch them. But I do throw them some dog food when they come around.
