I wrote this on another forum and I was just looking for some opinions: (Once again i'm not for puppy mills. so please dont take this out of context)
Now I said I didnt condone anything that puppy millers do. I said it makes me happy when a puppy gets a home no matter where it came from..
But have you ever thought of it this way: Where will the puppies go if we dont buy them from a store...euthanized perhaps, maybe sold cheaper... Or they could end up in a rescue center were some loving people that love dogs and animals like us, would end up purchasing the dog anyway. Now granted the money would no longer go to the puppy miller, but not all people want a dog from a rescue center so whos to say that in the rescue center the dogs wont be euthanized.. And I have read on many occasions that if the dogs arent found a home witin 7 days that they euthanize (because those people volunteer as it is) and they cant afford to feed and keep a dog for longer amounts of time.. Now Im not saying that all shelters do this but i have heard on more than one occasion that this happens.. So that faultless dog doesnt get love and affection because of where it was born...
I mean we hate millers so much, is it clouding over our love of dogs? We want to shut millers down so badly that we dont care what happens to the puppies as long as the mills are stopped. I'd like to think that wasnt true
Would you rather an unhealthy puppy with a hard future ahead of it be put to rest humanely, or have it be bought, go through years of heartache and pain, and thus, the money paid for it in the first place is then opening up a new door for more unhealthy puppies?
Think of it that way. Buying them isn't liberating them...it's hurting more that follow in it's broken spirit.
Well if the people that bought the dog would neuter it like they are supposed to do then the reproduction of the dog wouldn't happen so there wouldnt be any screwed up puppies! That solves that, and I dont see how if the dog gets bought then his life isnt going to be any worse than it was spending the first couple of weeks of his life in a kennel.. I just like to see puppies get good homes no matter what. Thats all that makes me happy!
