Duncan is being trained each day by a professional trainer to learn to pick things up that I drop. The first step was basic obedience training which I have to say has been a huge success. His new trainer is using a new collar on him - it is a prong collar. She said that after working with him a bit, she realized he was not responding to a regular chain collar so she switched it. I agree in my training with him - he didn't respond to the regular chain either. Does anyone out there use a prong collar? I will say Duncan does not seem to mind it at all. In the morning when it comes time to put it on to go to "school" he doesn't hide or have any hesitation. He also seems very happy to go to the trainers every day. I should also mention he is a 10 month old cock-a-poo. I just want to make sure this is not a problem training method.
If you are talking about a "pinch collar" they are the best. My male lab is 100 lbs. and it is almost impossible to walk him on a leash without it. It does not bother him at all in fact he likes to put it on cuz he knows it is time for his walk in the park. I have total control over him with it on. He no longer "walks me"
OMG!!!!!! He is absolutely adorable. I just bred my Duncan with a standard poodle. Funny.......she is cream, he is chocolate and all 7 pups were black!!!!!!!! BTW ty for showing me how to add friends to duncans list. I just found this site today and I am addicted. All help is greatly appreciated. This weekend both Duncans will have a "new" friend. I am getting a yellow lab. Will keep you up-to-date on her as well. I also need help with a name for her.
The prong collar is a like a miracle training aid. Minnie is getting stronger, and I've been tugging harder and harder. The prong keeps her in check, and I haven't dislocated my shoulder (yeah - I really did) since I out it on her!
