I have just recently adopted a rabbit from the shelter and it is very shy and dosn't like to be handeled or touched.. he runs into his little igloo house every time i enter the room. I feel so bad because he just sits in there and shakes. Any ideas or tips on how to get him to trust me? and not be so scared anymore? Thank you for any information you can give me :)
Ps) he is a mini rex rabbit and is believed to be about 6 months old.
Take it really slow with him. He will come around eventually, but it is scary for him to be in a new place with a new person, etc. Speak softly when you are near him and hold out treats in your hand to coax him out of the igloo house. Don't try to pick him up until he is very confortable with you bring around him. Feed him treats, pet him, talk softly to him and gradually you will win over his trust.
He's your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You're his life, his love, his leader. He will be faithful and true to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion
Be very sweet and calm and gentel when you talkt o him and touch him. Also try bringing him a treat when you come and get right down on the floor with him and just sit there and let him come to you and let him sniff you and check ya over. Then mabey get a little ball and try playing with him.
"Dogs arent our best friends...were their best friends...."
Just take it very slow. Don't scream even if he/she gets really scared and bites you. Try and get a carrot was it off and speak softly to him/ her and say " Do you like carrots? Then come and get it." Say this really slow. Don't hurry him/her. Don't pet him/her when he/ she comes. Then next time try to just touch him/her. Don't be scared he/she can sense fear then become scared.
