Hey everyone, I have a 3 1/2 month old male english mastiff puppy. He was extremely small when I got him due to health issues. So I was wondering if anyone in here might know how much he should be weighing at his age, or maybe know where I could find a growth chart for mastiffs. I just want to make sure he is catching up to where he is supposed to be. Thanks.
This is a size chart on Saint Bernards by age in days, weeks, etc. They are pretty close to English Mastiffs so this is probably a good rough idea for you. A few pounds lighter isn't abnormal if the puppy is a runt, but don't be surprised if he has a sudden growth spurt and becomes even larger than the standard calls for. Sometimes, runts can be the biggest surprises.
Have you asked your vet? Mastiff's can vary in size quite a bit. My mastiff topped off at 220, some are as small as 120. I got mine when she was 18 months old, so I don't know how much she weighed at 3 months. Maybe check your library for a book on Mastiffs.
Thanks Heathermaran, The vet seems to think he is doing fine now. He wasn't a runt, the whole litter was very unhealthy and were very low in weight. I do have him on a large breed puppy food that is a controlled growth formula, so that may be slowing him down too, which is fine. Do you still have your mastiff?
Your right! They are the best. He absolutely owns me, and he knows it. Thanks for the picture. So have you decided if you are going to get another one yet? As soon as I learn how to post pictures I will. I'm not that computer savvy.
Oh, I definitely will get another, or 3! I'm getting ready to move to WA, so once I get settled in there, if my living situation is right, then I'll get another. I'm looking at rescues right now, and am considering a mix, but I really love the temperament of a Mastiff.
Before we got our puppy we went through a rescue and got a mastiff. He was very much an alfa male and didn't care for men. Within four hours of having him he bite my husband on the arm. So the only way my husband would agree to a mastiff after that was if it was a puppy. I hope you are able to get another mastiff.
