Oakley had surgery yesterday to remove a "growth" on the top of her head. All she has been doing since I brough her home is walking around the house whining. She is totally not herself and I don't know what to do. It is breaking my heart. How long before she starts acting "normal"? She is normally just full of life and a total trouble maker. She didn't act this way when we had her spayed at 9 months old. Any suggestions?
well did you ask a vet yet. Cause she may just be acting up. But I had a dog who had a growth removed and he was just acting different for a little while. So mabey she will start acting like herself soon!
The vet said that she wouldn't be hereself for a few days but she wasn't like this when she was spayed. The whining is killing me. I've actually just been laying in bed with her and that seems to keep her quiet.
did she get any pain meds for home? I know alot of vets don't think that pain control is a big thing in animals, but it does make a difference in the healing process. Is she wearing an e-collar or is there dried blood/drainage around the incision that could be making her itch? Maybe check those out and see if it helps. When Thumbelina had surgery for her eyes, I would give her a dose of Benedryl (regular strength, NOT Children's) every 8 hours to keep swelling(every wound/incision has swelling)/itching down...it also makes them a touch drowsy. It is dosed by weight, so you will want to call your vet about how much to give. Hope this helps.
The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of thier dreams.
Thanks Newfie Girl. Any help is appreciated. She didn't get any pain meds from the vets. The vet didn't think she'd need them. There is a little dried blood so I'll clean that off. No e-collar. Her incision is swollen so I'll try the benedryl (after I call the vet).
