At about 3 weeks Mom will start the weaning process, some earlier some later. Definitely feed the pups. I put dry puppy food in the blender, make a powder out of it and mix it with Esbilac and make a mush out of it. you may have to put their mouths down in the mix or let them suck it from your fingers to show them what it's for, and they will learn to lap it up in a day or two
They are 4 weeks old. I thank everyone who has helped me on this. I just wanted to make sure it was okay to wean at this time. I have made a mush like suggested and they are all (9) lapping it up just fine. Do I need to put water in a bowl for them to drink? Can they become dehydrated if I don,t or choked if I do?
The puppies will get some liquids from the mixture of food, but they still need to have water offered to them. I use water and puppy dry food, put it in the blender until it is blended thoroughly. Put to puppies in the corner of their living space and put the food in front of them. They tend to back off from the food if you put it anywhere else. They might do this until they get used to eating real food. They can still get away from the food if they really want to because they will not hesitate to walk through it. I use plastic container lids to feed my babies. I always lose the bowls and have extra lids, so they make great feed plates. You just need to remove them as some as the babies are done eating, they might chew on them if you don't.
She might be partial to mom or maybe have a problem with worms. I would take her to the vet and make sure that there isn't a parasitic problem with her. It may come down that she needs a special diet or something....or maybe hand feed her for a while.
