ok now someone on here said that it's ok to put used motor oil on dogs mange. ummmmm......NO that isn't good for them they can lick it off and die from this. it's unsafe to even put a small amount on them. why would someone put something potentaly dangerous and could kill their pets? it don't make any sense to me.
Some 30 years ago, dipping dogs with demodectic mange in motor oil was a popular home remedy. Skin exposure to motor oil can cause rashes and skin destruction in severe cases. The hydrocarbons can be absorbed through the skin and cause a dangerous drop in blood pressure. If motor oil is licked off the coat, resultant vomiting can lead to aspiration of motor oil into the lungs and pneumonia. Kidney and liver damage can result from motor oil dipping.
Please: Do not dip your dog in motor oil!
Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.
Ive herd of both of those. On one of those animal cop shows they found a dog that had been burnt the owners said they had put karsone on the dog because of mange and some teens had set him on fire (something like that anyway) then they cops explained to the cam guy that oil gas and karsone were common uses to cure mange but they didnt work at all.
i cant rember if the dog lived or not though.
I'm gonna trade this life for fortune and fame I'd even cut my hair and change my name
No one I know on here has recommended motor oil for mange... however I *do* recall using this as an example of stupid home remedies that are deadly and dangerous after you, pinky girl, said people should give tobacco to dogs as a 'home remedy' for worms instead of taking the dog to the vet to be treated.
Never trust a tall dwarf... he's lying about something.
well I know now that you shouldn't do that. I do remamber I didn't say that you shouldn't take it to the vet but I was just giving a suggestion for the worms.
hummmmmm......that was like how long ago? I have found many pages saying how to get rid of worms. and I have educated myself threw those pages and other peoples posts and will not suggest that or any other stupid home remidies that my auntie tells me.
I had heard of this all my life b/c my parents were believers in it and not the vet. I think it is a BIG superstition!!! It needs to be in the book the world's superstitions! It doesn't make sense just like alot of home treatments people used didn't make sense and made the illness worse. Like one illness where a bunch of people where very sick and they thought putting water under the bed would help ,but it attracted mosquitos that ended up causing the illness. Sorry I don't have all the info but I do know I saw it on the discovery channel.
