Waiting out life day by day, knowing what is to come down the road. Is this spleen surgery a good thing to put my 15 age dog threw. She is still taking short to long walks,so I feel she is strong enough. What about freezing to preserve a pet for 6months and
Ok at 15 this dog is pretty old. I don't know why it needs a spleenectomy, but I would not do this if it were my dog.And are you kidding about "freezing" it? You need to accept the fact it is time to make the most painful decision and prepare yourself to deal with the pain. It isn't easy and you cry alot, but then the good memories take over and you begin to heal. I would think 99% of us have had to go through this. Please be sensible and think about the (not) quality of life putting a geriatric dog through a long drawn out medical process. I just read your post on another thread. If this dog has cancer at this age, you would be putting your dog through a painful course of treatment to keep him alive for you...He will want to go when the time comes. Please do not put him through chemo. He is old. It is near his time. I would not opt for treatment other than meds to keep him comfortable and then when he has more bad days than good days, take him in and do the most compassionate act FOR HIM.(or her)
15 years old, is really old for a lab or a chow. Honestly you would be trying to prolong things. If you have talked with your vet, and your vet thinks its a wise descision, then by all mean do what you want. BUT putting an old dog under anesthia is very dangerous in itself. Why freeze for 6 months. For what? Think long and hard about this, Its ultimatley your last call.
Whoever said you can't buy happiness, must have never owned a dog!!!!!!!!!!!
I am so sorry about your dog. I was concerned about putting mine under for a teeth cleaning at 13. At 15 I would not even consider it to put her through that. Hope everything gets better for you soon. I know that would be a hard decission.
