Thank you all so much, The web site is very helpful. I was going to buy some books to help as well, I was looking at this one. "The Shih Tzu Manual! Insider's Guide To A Happy, Healthy & Well Behaved Shih Tzu" the price is a little high but some say training Shih Poos/Tzu is difficult if you don't know what your doing.
Hello Halosfire I'll try to get some pics to show. Cute pics of your pup. Do you have a problem with potty training? cookie, my dog does not like the cold and at 6 months it's been hard to train. How old is your pup?
She's about a year and 5 months old now. In terms of her face, I just wash her face with baby shampoo.. you know, the no tears stuff.. every once in awhile, and she does pretty good. Not to mention I do keep up whole heartedly on her grooming.
Potty training, hoo boy.. we are -still- working on that, actually. I mean, she does really well.. alot of the times It is my own error. Be consistant, crate training is what I use.
If that's your dog in your display pic, she looks exactly like Duchess did when she was a puppy. It's kinda scary, really. So.. I'm assuming, she will look alot like my Duchess after a year or so. Their color changes drasticallyyyy.
I do use a crate and she sleep with me at night with no PROBLEM what so ever. But when I'm hanging out she does not show any signs of having to go to the bathroom. sorry yes that is cookie in the picture.
That is where you're messing up. The first few months of potty training for a pup are the most critical. She should in no way shape or form be allowed to sleep in your bed.. or roam the house.. until she is properly trained. When you do this, she gets mixed signals.
Get a schedule. At night, feed her around 5pm.. put her in the crate.. 30 minutes later, let her go potty. Let her play out of the crate for 30 minutes, then put her in for bed. Through out the night, let her out every 2-3 hours to potty.. striaght back in. Around 8am, feed her again.. put her in her crate for 30.. let her out to pee.. let her play for 30, put her back in. Around 1 feed her again, and repeat.. then again at around 5, repeat. Stick to a schedule like this, or similar. Maybe lengthen the "play time" as the days go by, and she shows that you can trust her a little. Eventually she will get the hint that straight out of the crate, means potty. NEVER EVER let her out of that crate, and straight to roaming.. ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS out of the crate, and straight outside. This is crucial.
