good morning all. fred(maltese) has the runs this morning. it started about 4:30 this morning and he's gone 2 more times. i know that pepto is good for humans but what about dogs? and if it is how much should i give him?
Just keep an eagle eye on the dog for the next while and determine whether the dog is lethargic, not drinking water, behaving differently than normal. A call to the vet for some advice could be beneficial.
Personally, I wouldn't give Pepto. Let whatever's the problem work its way through naturally. Your pup may have just gotten into something that didn't agree with him and will be fine, given a little time.
If you know your pup got into something he shouldn't have, say, a whole lotta chocolate, and he's having explosive diarrhea (not just runny stools), then get him to his vet ASAP.
when Daisy has diarhea which is often- my vet has me give her kaopectate (sp) And it does work. I didnt think she would take it being pepermint flavor but she has always taken it by syringe when i give it to her and it does help -
again my vet said kayopectate (sp) Daisy was 2 months old and was taking this for diarhea and still does when her diarhea gets bad. The vet told me no pepto. and rice and boiled burger. it does help.
whats the differnce between kayopectate and pepto its for the same thing? i wonder why one is ok to give and the other not? I also just found out from my boss at work her dog hurt his back leg some how and she called her vet and the vet told her to give the dog bayer asprin - not tylenol or motrin but bayer asprin and this is really helping her dog- I never would of known that. we dont have asprin in our house, my mother never let us take it growing up/ we take motrin and mostly all we have is motrin 800mg from my doctor. but ive been meaning to buy some bayer asprin in case its ever needed by my dogs. learned something new,.,,,
