Hello to all. I'm new here and hope I can find some help. My husband and I have always had cats as part of our family. We have no children and finally decided we wanted a dog. We did much research to find the right breed for us. We have a small house and small yard. In January we brought home our new baby. A male papillon. We love him to pieces. Our cat (chloe) is not sure about him yet. Anyway, he is very loving but when he's really excited or very tired he starts biting. Not puppy chewing - biting. We have read many things and tried them all and nothing seems to be working. Any suggestions. We will be starting puppy classes in a few weeks.
We'll when he bites tell him no (in a loud and mean tone) and pick him up (DON'T GIVE HIM ANY ATTENTION) because he will think it is ok for him to bite. So once you have picked him up put him in a crate or laundry room and just leave him for a couple minutes.Try sticking with this for a couple days and maybe it will work. Also try watching the dog whisperer show with cesar malone, he will give some wonderful tips on how to prevent ur dog from biting. We'll good luck, i hope everything goes well for you! He has probly learned that the biting is getting him some pay off, but, yelling at the puppy is going to make things worse. StArt reading into the NILIF rules (Nothing In life is free)GOOGLE IT there is lots of info on it.And get into the training ASAP. Papillons are very intelligent dogs, maybe not so good for novice owners. Being intelligent means the dogs abilities to learn are more advance then some. But if the owners are inexperienced in dog ownership, then the dog will learn things on his own, and they may not be what you want. The breeder of this dog should have placed you with a pup that is much more submissive.
