I took Ripley in yesterday for a dental. For those of you who don't know, she is my 11 year old Rott/Lab mix. I decided to go ahead with a pre-op blood panel. It was a good thing I did. It turns out she is in the beginning stages of kidney failure. I feel like someone kicked me in the stomach. She has always been incredibly healthy. They started her on K/D diet which will hopefully slow down the progression so she will be around for several more years.
Anyone with experience in this area? Is there anything else I can do?
I'm really sorry to hear the news about Ripley. Hopefully since it was caught in time it can be treated effectively. There is quite abit of information out there and here is just one thing I found. Charlie and his posse wish you guys the best! http://www.thepetcenter.com/gen/kf.html
I like him a lot better than I like most people. To you he's a dog. TO me he's an adopted son who is short, hairy, walks on all fours and doesn't speak clearly. I have no problem with any of these. <
So sorry about Ripley. She looks like a real sweetheart. She is going to have alot of love and care and she has a good mom, so she is still very fortunate. I am glad you had the blood work done too. Believe me it pays. We would not h ave Tina right now if they hadn't been able to catch her problem. Good luck and your baby is going to be fine.
sorry to hear about your baby. she may have a hard time with the change in her diet, but if it means a longer life, than she will adjust. shes a very pretty old gal. harley, my gsd, is ten years old now, and i can see his age starting to show. its hard on us "parents" to have to go through the bad things that befall our pets. all we can do is love them and make the best of the years that we have with them. hopefully you will have many many more with your baby (((((( hugs )))))))
If you are a dog and your owner suggests that you wear a sweater, suggest that he wear a tail.
