Is there a good dog food that I can buy at Petsmart? I'm reading about all the different foods that people think aren't very good. My Papillon has allergies. I don't know to what, but I'm thinking of trying a food change. Right now I'm feeding Kibbles N Bits, which another post said it wasn't very good, especially with allergies.
Are there any opinions on what food I can get without breaking the bank or ordering online?
Kibbles and Bits is horrible!! Yucky! My English Setter eats Innova but Natural Balance, Wellness, and California Natural are also great foods. Sorry none of which you can get at Petsmart but I think Petco now carries Natural Balance.
The dog food debate is an old one. Does your Vet believe your pet is allergic to his food and what are his recommendations? I personally would stay away from the cheaper foods IF that were all I was feeding. My pets are very healthy eating a mediocre food and real food. I cook them meat and veges to mix with their dog food and I think this provides a natural balance for them.
No, I'm not just limited to Petsmart, but that and Petco are the only "pet places" around that I knew of. After reading alot of these posts I'm learning more and more.
I have two small dogs, Norfolk/Chi mix and Papillon. My Papillon has a problem with his ears. He is constantly scratching. His vet says it's an allergy. He hasn't gone through tests or anything to find out what it is. I just want to try a few different things to see if I can pin it down. My Norfolk, there's no problems. I should probably add it's not a flea problem.
I wanted to try a better food, see if that helps, but don't know what kind would be better.

my male french bulldog, rocky, has allergies. i have tried several foods , and i do mean SEVERAL, before finding the natural balance. natural balance makes a line of allergy formulated foods. i chose the potato and duck. not only does he love the food, he has shown a marked improvement in his skin, coat and eye problem. great stuff.
If you are a dog and your owner suggests that you wear a sweater, suggest that he wear a tail.
Lovemymutt... My dog is on Natural Balance Duck and potato. I thought she might have allergies as she had a red, flaky tummy. She has done wonderfully on the NB! She sometimes gets the flaky skin, I'm still trying to narrow it down, but I know that it isn't the food. I always get compliments on her wonderful coat, too!
