Daisy is alittle over 6 months old- as far as i can tell well what i think im looking for, she isnt in heat. But Bentley my neutered male dog is all werid around her and sniffing her butt 24/7 and he hasnt done this before- and also hes marking where she pees and poops in the yard. From what i read on this forum that she will be swollen and also bleed- but she doenst have any of these signs- Can a male dog tell before i will beable to tell? He has not tried to hump her ( sorry for the use of that word) or vis versa i dont know if a female will do that to a male or not- What signs am i looking for/ will all dogs bleed and be swollen? is this the only signs of going into heat? Daisy has a vet appt next thursday for blood work and the rest of her last vaccines and then the vet will decide if she is ok to be spayed. But her health and put her being spayed by now on hold . Bentley is neutered and Daisy doesnt go outside with out me so im not worried at all about her getting pregant. Im just wondering why my male is acting way differnt and hes also been jumping up on my daughters beds and peeing on them when he hasnt peed in the house in 3+ months, now hes is marking- which he hasnt done since he was neutered 5 months ago, Something is going on with Bentley i just dont know what. Hes eating fine and playing- he is whiney tho which he hasnt done before any one have any ideas? is Daisy going into heat? or is something else going on with Bentley? hes one year and 3 months old. Can the vet spay her while she is in heat? or will it have to wait till she is out of heat? thanks for any help
Yes, the males can usually tell far before they actually come in and show the signs. Will they all swell and bleed? No, there are things such as a silent heat, where they can swell but not bleed, or bleed but not swell. It can be complicated, lol. With Bentley being neutered I wouldnt worry too muc as long as you are with her when you go out as you said. I believe that the vet can still spay while she is in heat, bit may charge a bit more. If she indeed comes in before the appt, just call and ask your vet what he prefers to do.
People are like slinky's, not really good for much. But its still fun to push them down the stairs.
I don't know about other dogs but my chihuahua bleeds when she coes into heat. it's grose because she loves to jump on the couch and she loves to go on my bed and everywhere else that's hard to get blood out of. I think it's grose.
Right some are so clean about it that you hardly notice. I had my girl spayed at 7 1/2 months at my vets request. Thats when he felt she was ready. No heat had surfaced. So its not written in stone that all will go into heat every 6 months, some go every 8 months, they are all slightly different. Do as your vet says.
Whoever said you can't buy happiness, must have never owned a dog!!!!!!!!!!!
As the pegesterone levels and harmone levels in the female start to increase on the rapid rise into season the male dog notices weeks before hand. My boys start to lick urine from the girls about that time.
On the best of days a dog is a dog, and on the worst of days a dog is a dog.
i have a 6 almost 7 month old miniature schnauzer and i was wondering when they get there first cycle? i picked her up this morning and i believe she is in heat but i am not sure? how long does the cycle last ?
My female minpin didn't come into heat until she was 8 months old and it lasted a littl over 2 weeks. Remeber that when she stops bleeding she is not done. After the bleeding stops is when she is ready to breed. This phase lasted another week. You can usually tell when it is approaching as her vulva will go from being a little girl(pea size) to blossoming into a woman ( nut size or larger). This should be your first sign. This happened with mine about a month( I think) before she started
I would never spay a dog while she is in heat regardless of what the Veterinarian wanted to do. The blood supply to the uterus is increased and they tend to bleed a lot more during this procedure. I would either spay her before or after the heat.
My German Shepard will be 12mths old in acouple of days and hasn't yet come into season when i asked my vet about this he said it can some times be 18mths before she has one i don't know weather this is just shepards or often for other dogs too.
Not all dogs have the same cycle lenght or onset. Some dogs only cycle once a year, some come in younger than others. Some females have silent heat cycles where you will see no outward signs, but the male will, and they can become pregnant. I suggest spaying and neutering any pet at around 4 months of age.
