Well, I would hope that you would check it before you ran it!! I do that normally in a top loading one. Actually front loading ones are a lot more energy efficient. You'll save money on electric rather then if you had a top loading one!

I love my front loading machines! They hold more and are more efficient. When you are doing laundry for 6 like me, it is important to do more in less time. The front loading machines allow for that! So sorry you are unhappy with your machine. I have always told all of my family members that I do not check pockets. That is their job. I wash them, not empty them. Any money found is mine! My son left 5 twenty dollar bills in his pocket and I kept them. He learned that lesson the hard way. I haven't found another penny that belongs to him! LOL
I have an LG front loader and there's 2 buttons, (one to set the cycle you want along with the big knob, and one to lock the door and set things in motion.)After the door is locked and the machine started, you can push the same button that locks the door and it will stop the process and unlock the door. After you're done doing what needs to be done, in your case, retrieve your wallet or let the cat out, push the same button and the machine will resume where you left off. And for the record, my cats love jumping in the front loading washer and dryer. I always make sure there's no cats in the machines. DH has to make sure his wallet isn't in his pocket before being tossed in the laundry,
we've got the "old-style" top loader, simply because of the repair costs...if a top loader needs repaired, parts are fairly inexpensive, and if needed, the whole unit can be replaced for a fairly low cost. If a front loader needs repairs, it takes a repair guy, parts and labor...parts for the front loader are NOT cheap, and are kinda expensive to replace...IMHO. My cats also love to jump in the dryer...no clue why!
