March 3rd, my friends dog was put to sleep because she had a horrible case of diabeties, and they did not even know it. Penny kept peeing all throughout the house and drinking way too much water for almost a week. So my friends mom took Penny to the vet and her blood sugar was tested at 600 when it is only supposed to be at 145, so she had diabeties. And it could not have been controled with diet, so they had to put her down right away. Their bichon was over weight, and was fed twice a day along with bones and human food! So those of you out their that are over feeding your pets, and giving them human food and a lot of treats, you need to end it. It is not good for your dog and they can get diabeties just like poor penny did! Penny was only five years old and i noticed that she was struggling with running and jumping up on the couches because she was over weight. :( So try and get your dog off those bad eating habits and keep them at the weight their type of breed is supposed to be. we'll i better get going, my dog wants to eat his food and then go for a walk. Sorry i wrote so much.
I am very sorry for your friends loss. That is a good lesson for those of us who over feed our dogs. I am currently trying to get my labs weight down because we gave him to much food and treats. I am definately guilty of over feeding him.
My goal in life is to be as good of a person my dog already thinks I am.
yea it is hard when your sitting their eating a sandwich and your dog gives you this pitiful face, saying can i have some of that? We as pet owners just need to learn to say no! that is good that you are trying to get your labs weight down, good job!
Thank you majorlover, the dog was not mine she was my two friends, but i loved that dog alot. Penny was so sweet and i was just shocked to get a letter saying she was put down, it brought tears to my eyes! i just wish i could have said hey maybe you should put your dog on a diet because she could get diabeties, but i guess it was just for the best.
I am very sorry for your friend's loss as well as your own. I appreciate that you brought to everyones' attention the fact that this might have been avoided by giving our dogs an appropriate diet. I know that I am guilty of overfeeding and over-treating (if there is such a thing), as well as a lot of others because we love our pets so much. But, as with this instance, it really is doing more harm than good. Again, I am sorry for the loss of such a dear friend, and would like you to know that I (and hopefully others) will take this lesson to heart.
