My dog is allergic to over the counter flea shampoos. Actually I've found only two shampoos she can use without problems. One is a medicated shampoo and one an oatmeal. She is having a flea problem and i was wondering if the flea products like Frontline or Advantix would cause the skin irritations like the shampoos. Can anyone help me with this?
any shampoo will kill fleas. They suffocate from the lather so even Dawn will kill them.
As for what to use on the dog, I would compare all the ingredients. I doubt there will be any of the same in the shampoo & the flea meds. You could also do this with the shampoos so you know what she is allergic to in them
Okay, I will try that. I have also heard of a pill that is supposed to kill fleas in 30 minutes, or something like that, that you get from a vet. I am just worried that she will have an allergic reaction to any of it. Like I said, only 2 different shampoos seem to not give her problems and we've tried dozens. The vet has to give her steriod shots, cortizone shots and benedryl when it happens. She loses hair and gets raw, itchy, flaky skin for weeks and suffers so much. I just don't want to put her through it if I can help it. Thank You.
The pill will kill the fleas but will not prevent re infestation. Frontline plus is pretty safe and doesn't have pesticides in it. If you are having a real problem the house and yard should probebly be treated as well. I would talk to the vet before you do anything.
