I have a toy poodle that I am pretty sure is expecting a litter the first of April. She has a small umbilical hernia. Will she be able to have these puppies? I will be taking her to the vet first thing Monday. Im just scared something will happen to her.
I'm considering purchasing a pug puppy, born in early December, who has an umbilical hernia. I'm not looking to breed him, just a family pet. Is the hernia of concern? I have another dog who is quite rambunctious, i wouldnt want her to cause any more damage to the pup's hernia.
Ask your vet how much they will charge to fix the umbilical hernia during a spay/neuter. Our vet only charges $25. I had one person tell me their vet said $500. I think the average is between $50 and $75. Definently get it fixed though because you don't want problems with it down the road, even though problems are rare.
Umbilical hernias can also be cause by the mom pulling too hard when she bites the umbilical cord after the pup is born.
